Medical Importance of Herbs and Spices

From the ancient time, Herbs and Spices are used for medical. Many Herbs and Spices like garlic, fenugrrek, clones, turmeric, coriander, cinnamon and oregano are used as medical medicine. Even till now, in some disease these Herbs and Spices are used. Those persons who are give medicine of these Herbs and Spices are called ‘Hakim’ or ‘Vadh’. These Herbs and Spices are common and we can find these herbs and spices in kitchen also.

1. Garlic is one of the best known and widely used herbal medicines. Garlic is a strong weapon against infection and a natural antibiotic. It has been found to reduce cholesterol and high blood pressure and is sometimes used to treat yeast infection.

2. Ginger has many medicinal uses. It is a very effective treatment for motion-sickness and general nausea. It is also used to prevent menstrual cramps and the nausea associated with chemotherapy.

3. Fenugreek is used by many women who suffer from the symptoms of menopause, hot-flushes, night sweats etc. It is also used to seduce cholesterol and relieve constipation.

4. Clones act as a wound antiseptic by killing harmful bacteria and are used to treat indigestion and diarrhea. They also act as deterrent to free radical damage to the body.

5. Turmeric has been used to treat arthritis, dysentery and heart disease. It is also believed to low the risk for certain cancers by attacking free radicals.

6. Coriander is another digestive enhancer which is used to treat colic pain general nausea.

7. Cinnamon is used to control the level of blood sugar for diabetics. It is also used to relieve the symptoms of urinary tract infection and yeast infections.

8. Oregano is used to relieve various respiratory system problem. It may also relieve digestive upsets and yeast infection.

10. Nettel is rich in minerals, especially calcium. Great for calming muscles spasms and toning the uterus.

Each herbs and spices have a distinct flavor, therefore enhancing foods differently. Herbs and spices are good in spaghetti or on meat. You have so many choices when it comes to herbs.
